Mike’s 70th Birthday Bash Weekend unfolds Friday–Sunday, February 20–22, bringing together friends, family, food. ex-wives, music, and classic Ocean Beach vibes. The weekend kicks off with a Friday Pub Crawl starting at 5:30 PM at California Wild Ales, continues Saturday with a Pizza Picnic at Pat’s, featuring fresh pies made on-site by Pacific Pizza, and wraps up Sunday with the main celebration from 3:00–7:00 PM at Winston’s, including live music by The Tighten Ups and Tecolote Canyon Band. Join for one day or the entire weekend — it’s all about good music, good people, and celebrating the journey.
I didn’t want a party about candles or speeches — I wanted a weekend that felt like my life. Places in Ocean Beach that have been part of my story for the past fifty years. Bars I’ve walked into for decades, rooms where the music was loud and the nights ran long, and sidewalks where the years quietly left their mark. Reminders of those we’ve loved and lost. Thirty years ago, I set a tile on Newport Avenue that reads Lived, Loved, and Learned in Ocean Beach — and that about sums it up. I’ve been lucky — lucky in family, lucky in friendships, lucky to land in a place that feels less like a neighborhood and more like a sanctuary. This weekend is my way of saying thank you to everyone who’s shared a beer, a meal, a sunset, or just a moment along the way. No agenda. No spotlight. Just good music, good people, and good times.
